Fourth OWI after traffic stop
AMERY – An Amery Police officer noticed a passing car with only one headlight just after midnight on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 18, in Amery.
After stopping the car, the driver said it belonged to his son, who was in the car with him. The driver was identified as Jeremy McDowell, 47, Turtle Lake, and he admitted to having several beers earlier while playing softball.
McDowell was under a suspended driving status, and the officer issued a field sobriety test, which McDowell failed. He later registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20%, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive and 10 times the limit allowed for McDowell, due to three previous OWI convictions.
He was placed under arrest for felony OWI, fourth, and taken into custody.
McDowell appeared in court on Monday, Aug. 19, where the judge set a $5,000 signature bond, and a preliminary hearing for Tuesday, Aug. 27, where he will determine if there is enough evidence to move the case against McDowell to trial.
