Handy steps up as candidate for Grantsburg School Board
GRANTSBURG — Brian Handy decided to give back to his alma mater when he turned in his candidacy papers for the board of education. Handy will join incumbent Jason Burkman and replace Heather Jensen, who chose to not seek re-election. New to the political arena, Handy provided some information for the district’s residents.
Handy is married to Rebecca and his children are Sean, Austin, Ashley, Kelsey, Adam, Kayla and Aaron. He graduated from Grantsburg High School and has worked at the grocery store for 27 years. Handy is currently the produce manager at KJ's Fresh Market.
“I am looking to give back to the district which has served me and my family so well over the years. It is my belief that I can contribute in a positive way. I feel that I possess the management skills which are critical in helping the Grantsburg School Board operate this district in a continued fiscally responsible way while also maintaining their fair decision making in all student/parent/personnel matters.
“Updating our school campus is an important issue facing the district. I am a member on the community action committee which is currently involved in the research stage of ways to improve our campus. I am in favor of bringing all of our district's students to one campus which would be located in its current location in the village of Grantsburg. This would be done by way of a community referendum and possibly to be voted upon at this fall's election.
