Polk County polling locations being prepared for your protection

POLK COUNTY - With the upcoming elections on Tuesday, April 7, Polk County Clerk, Lisa Ross, is encouraged by the efforts of all municipal clerks within Polk County to conduct a clean and safe voting process. Information has been flowing to and from the Wisconsin Elections Commission, our County Clerk’s office and between all of our municipal clerks to help keep election workers and voters safe from COVID-19. Safety of all workers and voters is a priority and the public should feel confident coming out to participate in our democratic process.

Some key elements of the strategy put forth by the state include
• Encourage as many people as possible to vote by absentee ballot online, email or US mail. By extending the deadline through April 3 to request an absentee ballot online at myvote.wi.gov/en-us/, by mail or by email.
• The Wisconsin Elections Commission is furnishing cleaning and sanitizing products for all polling locations in Wisconsin. Polk County has ordered ample supplies of EPA- approved hand sanitizer and cleaning and disinfecting products.
• Cleaning procedures of voting machines and equipment have been distributed to all
municipal clerks.

COVID-19 prevention in polling locations information from the Wisconsin Elections Commission has been distributed to all municipal clerks. This information provides steps such as:
• Practice social distancing
• Practice routing cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces with the EPA-
• approved cleaning and disinfecting products.
• Practice frequent hand hygiene.
• Clean and disinfect voting associated electronics with the EPA-approved cleaning and
• disinfecting products.
• Clean and disinfect other preventative actions polling station workers can take for
• themselves and the general public.

Curbside voting procedures have been distributed and will be available in some Polk County polling locations for voters that cannot enter the polling location or absentee voting location. Contact your local municipal clerk beforehand to discuss arrival time and what you should do when you get to the voting location.

It is important that everyone keep an appropriate social-distance from other people when arriving to the voting locations. Poll workers and signs will be available to provide guidance at each polling station. As usual, stay patient and use common sense when going anywhere during this health emergency.
